Established 10 gallon adding fish

Hello everyone
I asked a similar question when I first joined in someones thread and now I can't find it. I have a 10 gallon tank that is established and doing great. I change out 30-50% water every Friday and sometimes a 25% water change in between if I give them a treat that makes a mess... I currently have 3 glofish, one is starting to nip at the others so I know I need more to make a school. I also need a algae eater. Here's my dilemma I want Otto's and they like at least 3 of them..Glofish like 6..That would be 9 fish..Too much? I want them to have friends and be happy but don't want a overstocked tank..Any advise or suggestions are welcome.

You will probably need to compromise and stick to one or the other. or invest in a larger tank, XMAS is coming up :P lol

I have a 30 gallon hex that I'm having to set up soon..Two 10 gallons and a 75 in Feb..No more tanks for now...I'm just trying to get everyone happy in this 10 gallon tank...I might just get a school of Glofish and clean Algae myself..Although I've not had any as of yet so we'll see. Thank you

Ok..Yeah..I found the thread..That took me a LONG time reading through all those..I like to talk..lol..Anyway..It was suggested that 2 more glofish..a Total of 5 and 3 ottos would be ok if I kept up on my water changes. Do you guys agree??

usually the general rule is 1 inch of fish (adult sized counted) per 1 gallon although to put it in perspective no one would or should put a 10 inch fish in a 10 gal tank. so the rule may have some faults although generally it should apply to the scenario your after.

IMO The tank would be slightly overstocked, but probably manageable.

I Don't want to overstock. ...I will just get 2 more glofish and call it a day. Since I've not had any algae problems I'll just deal with it if one arises. Thanks guys.

I agree with lucy...I think it would be ok and you are great on maintenance...its not badly overstocked where it would be an issue IMO..but everyone thinks we need algae eaters when most times preventing algae is easier ..but the otto's are too cute not to have

I agree, They are just so cute..lol..I've never seen any algae in my tank so I guess the preventing thing is going good for me hopefully my upkeep will be enough to keep the algae monsters away. . I knew I didn't really need the ottos, and I figured I would have to feed them because their is no algae in my tank or any I can see anyway but like you said Shawnie...they are just too cute..To bad they like to school. But I guess I would want friends too. I'll just get 2 for glofish so they can have a school and if the need comes up I'll get the ottos and just do water changes twice a week. Thanks guys.

I don't know about snails so I can't comment on them.

Ghost shrimp are a lot of fun and you can add several to your tank. They really don't have much bio-load at all so you can add almost as many as you want. You don't want to over crowd them though.
If you feed them freeze dried blood worms, they'll zip to the top and swim upside to get them. Very entertaining!

That's up to you, you can have a whole bunch as long as they've got places to hide.
Maybe start with a few to make sure you like them.
There are other varieties of shrimp you can have so you can also read the through the forum to see if there's another kind you like.
