| Your Dream 20 Gal! I have a twenty gallon I need to stock up on, taking all suggestions!
If you're trying to suggest for me, I really like Gouramis, cories, otos... Not a huge fan of neon/glo tetras but maybe open for other tetras (I probably havent seen them before, lol).
Or, build your own dream 20 gallon tank ;>
Have fun!
edit: Just fell in love with sparkling gouramis *_* Last edited by Paprika; December 2nd, 2008 at 02:39 AM.

| g'morning Paprika
Sparkling Gourami's are a nice choice, as they are very peaceful fish and remain small. I would suggest checking out the honey Gourami's as well. They also remain small and are peaceful fish. The otos are cute fish and serve a great purpose in new tanks when they start to develop the brown diatoms, as the oto's do love to eat it. I would wait on the oto's for awhile before adding them to a tank tho. Without any algae or diatoms to eat you may loose them.
For a twenty gal tank, I would suggest a stock of:
2 Sparking Gourami's
3 Honey Gourami's
3 corys.
5 neons
I read that you dont really care for neons, but a school of them swimming around together is such fun to watch, plus they would add a different & colorful peaceful fish for your tank. Last edited by capekate; December 2nd, 2008 at 04:56 AM.

| I can't help you since I don't know about Gourami's.
However you did ask for what I would do so:
20 gal, heavily planted. Stocked: 1 paradise fish + Cory school. OR 1 paradise fish with tiger barbs OR just tiger barbs.
(Paradise fish are really agressive so tanks mates would need to be able to hold their own.) |

| I would do a species only tank of sparkling gouramis and both floating and planted vegetation. I love my shrimp so I would have a clan of ghost shrimp. I just checked them out after reading how you were officially in love with them and discovered that Bettas are related to gouramis. The sparkling gouramis are shaped a lot like Bettas. Cute fish! | Im a fan of Honey Dwarf Gouramis. Mine is so friendly that he makes cleaning the tank a pain. He is always swimming up near my hands while im vacuuming the gravel or what not.
Maybe something like 1 honey dwarf, 6 bloodfin tetras and 3 ottos? I have close to that. I see you dont like neons, but those go with gouramis really well too (i actually have cardinals, close to neons but i like them much better)
Ottos will keep the tank clean and the white/silver/green on the tetras is really nice as they dart around while the bright gourami just chills.
If you have a tall tank this probably wouldnt work though because the bloodfins are so active and would like more swimming room.
But if this were me, i might be thinking about some dividers and 3-4 betta boys~! thats my next thing. Last edited by Elleric; December 2nd, 2008 at 01:27 PM.

| Hey, I just looked at the sparkling gouramis. I have to say I like them more than the dwarf and similar-looking gouramis.
(I'm not getting one though still ) |

| I just got a 29 gallon tank, and obviously I'm a huge fan of gouramis, so you might want to check out my aquarium info for some ideas as well. I don't have in cories in that tank...they're all in the 55 upstairs. The sparkling gouramis look to be gorgeous fish...I wish I could find them where I live! You might want to look into the licorice gourami as well...from what I can tell they look very similar and have a very peaceful temperament as well.
You mentioned other tetra suggestions...the red eyes are getting along wonderfully with my dwarfs. You might want to veer away from the diamonds...they sometimes try to chase my dwarfs, but the dwarfs will keep them in line...from what I've read about sparkling gouramis they won't necessarily stand up for themselves like that. I'm also a big fan of rummynose tetras even though I haven't kept them...wonderful splash of color and I think they have a similar temperament to the red-eyes, although I could be mistaken on that. Good luck with your tank! |

| well if she wanted a cold water a 20 gal is big enough for a few yoyo's and a school of gold barbs(?). (I believe that they're cold water, I might be wrong though... online lists are vague about non-goldfish or koi cold water species) |

| I had Sparkling Gouramis, they are great. I bought my 20 because I wanted them. I had 5 Sparkling Gouramis, 2 GBRs, 4 Cories, and 5 Purple Emperor Tetras. I miss that tank. It was a long time ago. |

| Yea, they were beautiful. They were lavender with a dark stripe on their sides from head to tail that would disappear at night but when the light came back on, their stripe would come back. They also had a peach colored belly and a beautiful iridescent sheen on them. They were about $8 per fish (the price has come down since then), but were such beauties. In my 75 gal. dream tank, I would definitely want them again, of course, if I have the money. But, that is why it is called a dream tank. |
