| 30 gallon hex stocking Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!!!!
I'll be getting that 30 gallon hex tank and was thinking it would make a good angelfish tank. How many angelfish would be ok in there Would 2 be ok with some larger tetras like blackskirt or its that too much for that tank. Thanks in advance folks. |

| I think that 1 angel would be good in there, especially since its a tall tank. if you want 2 I would suggest getting a breeding pair, because have just 2 ordinary angels could very well result in fights. A small school of larger tetra, Silver Tipped or Congo or Skirt, would be fine I think |

| I think 2 would be great...get them as juvies and if they pair off, they become more agressive ...but if they are the same sex, they are pretty cool as community fishies...if you get the tetra's, which would be ok, and if you happen to have a pair m/f of angels, they may not tolerate the tetra's..but pairing of angels takes months if you get them as juvies....goodluck and dont forget pics |

I was going to get the baby angles that I saw when I took the rescue fish in. They were SOOOO cute. I will not forget pics..I'm real excited about getting the tank. I just have to wait untill the guy that's giving it to me cleans it...He won't give it to me dirty..lol..I'm appreciative of that. I've been scrubbing my fair share of tanks lately. I'll just have to find a home for the african cichlid that's already in there...He's to big for the tank and not the right kind of tank for him either. Too bad I don't have my 75 yet. |

what kind of african is in there? | Well I haven't seen it yet..He was going to "get rid of it"..But I told him I would find it a home..He just called it a african Cichlid..But it's all orange and he said he hasn't been able to keep any other fish in the tank with it because it eats them..In another thread a red zebra was mentioned. |

| It is a shame!!!..I would love to give him to somebody who knows what they're doing and loves them..Hopefully I can find someone like that here. |

| the angels will love the hex tank, other than that you can only keep little fish in that tank, remember its all about surface area with aquariums. I have a 27 gallon hex and the thing has the surface area of a 10 gallon tank. the thing is also a pain in the but to keep clean because its so deep, you will need lots of power filter extension tubes! |

| Hopefully it will come with all that..I'm really not sure what it has..My husband has seen it but knows nothing about aquariums so I tried drilling him but he didn't know..lol..I guess I'll just see what I get when I get it and go from there...I knew about the surface area thing..and I figured it would be a pain to clean..and also change decorations around..lol..I was thinking about that today..I'm short..My arms won't reach..lol. Guess that will be hubbies job. |

| Yes I will..I had to find a new home for my CAE which went very well...I quizzed them and made sure they were knowledgable. I also took the other rescue fish to a store who was very knowledable, nice clean tanks, not over stocked, to badly that is..lol. It's my first priority to find good homes for the fish that I rescue. The tank is just a added bonus. IMO. If nothing else I'll find a way to keep him untill I can find a suitable home. |

| Just a little story from my house, it was about August the year I got into fish, and we started out w/ a few guppies (overstocked of coarse in a 5g tank), well the guppies had fry and so on... well around Christmas I decided to buy a 10g tank (didn't know what a "cycle" was but I stocked it w/ a little of everything, killed a little of everything), eventually as I learned the "cycle" my husband fell for the guppies, well we ended up going out looking for a bigger tank (at this time I had a 5g, 1g (w/ guppy fry), and a 10g tank)... My husband hated the fish... I mean hated as in wouldn't even feeed them.
And well, after christmas I guess when he saw how much I enjoied the fish and our 3 year old son loved them we got the bigger tank (the 55g) and our first african cichilds. Now we are 10 tanks richer. I just started my first SW reef nano (14g in sept).
Hubby's do eventually join in if they see that the family is getting into it. So I am hoping yours will help you make room for yours, and help you get a bigger tank, you seem to be into this hobby so much, its addictive and rewarding too.
Btw, I do all the tank maintence, feeding, water chemistry, etc (and my hubby has a bachlors in enviromental science) he could prob teach me what to do! |

I've always been a big animal person. We help our local Humane Society by fostering cats and kittens untill we or they can find good homes for them. I just love animals..Its just my personality I guess...I'm a stay at home mom, and before that I worked in the medical field..as a phlebotomist in the lab .I'm very much the nurture type. Never really been interested in fish..I always liked things with fur. or skin lol..But now I'm just lovin the fish. My husband has always been very supportive of what ever my passions are but never really gets to involved. He will however help me with whatever I need help with..Filling buckets of water for water changes..sticking his arm in the tank to move a plant for me..lol..He's a good guy..but would rather be in the garage working on his toys then inside looking at the tank..lol..However..I am getting a 75 gal in feb and he really wants a Cichlid tank..and I'm kinda liking them too. So I think that's my bait..Let him set up a tank that he likes with fish he likes with a little help from me and I'm betting he'll be hooked. Maybe I could just get him to take care of the 75 and I could do the other 3..lol. Last edited by CHoffman; November 28th, 2008 at 11:52 PM.
