Hi all!
Well my tank is nearing readiness, been cycling it fishlessly using pure
ammonia, the "add and wait" method described in these forums. Seems to be working ok... Ammonia now drops from 4 or 5
PPM to 0 ppm within 12-24 hrs of topping it up, and my Nitrites are gradually beginning to fall!
So, next step is a large
water change and buy some fishies!!!
My question is this.. I have a Juwel Rekord 60 tank which holds a little less than 60 litres, which I reckon is around 13 gallons. We're going with a few guppys and tetras initially I think (although final decision is with my gf!!). The tank has an integrated filter in the rear right hand corner. The pump head connects to a tube which brings the water out and dumps it slightly above the water line, causing a fair bit of splash and agitation at the surface.
Will this be sufficient to aerate the tank so my fishies can breathe ok? Or should I look into adding a little air stone?
PS: I should mention we also hope to keep a couple of live plants in the tank, which should help add some O2 to the mix.
Would appreciate the advice!! After all I've spent, I guess a few more quid won't kill me, but electric is getting expensive around these parts!!!
Cheers,
Rich.
