Aquarium Backgrounds

Can someone please explain the benefits of having a background for an aquarium?

TIA

backgrounds are appealing to the eye and help decorate the tank. It also hides alot of the wires that hang off the back of the tank.

Two reasons for me.....aesthetics and depending on the fish and it might help make them feel safer.

I've never used any backgrounds, but that's just because my room is painted like a beach and the ocean, so the aquariums are right up against my 'ocean', lol. I think it gives some fish more security, and it's aesthetically pleasing.

I use a plain black background. It's calming for the fish, and really makes their colours stand out!

ill go with what lucy said. it helps the fish feel safe! and you can give a nice touch of your own. i have never had a background, due to me have saltwater, so the coraline algae covers the back

I love a nice background purely for the looks...I like the natural looking ones with aquarium plants and stumps ,rocks..driftwood ones. If I can find one that matches the decor in my tank it gives a lot of depth and texture to the tank.

I use a background on the 25 gal because it sits close to a window and I wanted to cut back a little on the light getting to the tank so I wouldn't have too much algae growing. Also for decoration purpose and to hide tubing, cords etc. The 30 gal has a mirrored back.
