Tank Placement

I know this question has been asked more than once and the answer is always ambiguous but here it goes again…

I have the opportunity to place a larger aquarium in a second floor room. The only area a 48” aquarium would fit would be against an inside wall and running parallel to the joists. I know perpendicular is preferred but this will not work because it is a window wall and there is no way my wife would let me cover up the window with an aquarium. One end of the aquarium would be on a load-bearing wall. There is also no way to “beef-up” the floor. I don’t think my wife would like posts in her dining room.

I would like to get at least a 55g but wonder if a 75g would work. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
Kevin

Well, your looking at about 600 pounds in a 4 square foot area with the 55.
Thats 150 pounds per square foot.
I would think most normal construction should handle that.

My father built our house, so I know for sure that the floors aren't reinforced or anything, and we're setting up a 55 gal on our second floor now. Ours is actually going to be running parallel to the joists as well, so there won't be an issue there. I have no idea about the 75 gal though.
