Moving from NY to FL

Is there anyway I can safely transport my fish from NY to FL? I'll be driving.

Maybe pack up your fish in bags? But I guess there wouldn't be enough air in there... it's such a long drive. Maybe there's a way you could seal the top of your tanks. Sorry, I'm really not that creative at problem solving.

By the way, what part of Florida will you be moving to? I live in West Melbourne. If you're anywhere close to Harbor City, there's a nice little fish store there called Nahacky's Aquarium... it's the only place I buy fish from.

bag them up with alot of air, use those styrafoam containter type coolers with some towels packed inside to transport..just make sure you keep your filter media, deco, and gravel wet with some tank water..maybe a big tupperware or plastic container with a cover..

West shmest. Melbourne rocks! (LOL!) At least you'll have a couple of decent fish stores around.

I would follow Shawnie's instructions, but I would add one thing. Take them to the LFS in their bags and see if they will fill the bags with medical oxygen for you. This will buy you a lot more time while you are traveling with them, and the risk of them running out of oxygen is a lot less. Some LFS's may charge you a little bit, but its worth it

Most of the smaller fish you can bag with 1.5-2 inches of water and the rest with normal air that will be in the bag and be fine for 2-3 days. Please double bag the loaches and check their bag periodically throughout the trip. Clown loaches have pointy spines under their eyes that will easily puncture a bag.

You could also use the sterilite plastic totes for the fish. Get 2 or three of em and put them with 4-5 inches of water and pop a lid on them and drive.
Dino and I have personally done 9 hour drives with fish in totes and been fine. We have also left fish in the fish bags as mentioned above, for 2-3 days without problem, but it is safer to do 1-2 days and either open the bag to reoxygenate the air inside, or rebag the fish.
