Today I went to PetSmart and saw the many bettas in their tiny cups, all Males, some where moving around ok in their cups, but there was some that have lost their color, their fins looked very weak, and some were just laid down on the bottom of their cup. There was one that struck my eye, I held up the cup he barely moved he was at the bottom of his cup, he had a blue outline but he was so pale and looked almost white.

You see I am in a wheelchair, I can walk but its hard for me to walk on those hard floors, I have such bad arthritis, and my hubby was pushing me, but he was pushing me so fast I really couldn't grasp everything that I was seeing, except that one fishie that caught my eye. No I did not buy him, I did not buy any fish today. Please pray for that fishie and the others that have to live their life like that. If I could I would buy all of them.

We can't save them all, but I believe knowledge is a very powerful way to help their cause.

Same here, Lucy. That story broke my heart the first time I read it and it still does.

On a brighter note, it is what has inspired me to NOT buy the gorgeous bettas we see and drool over on Aquabid. I can only get away with so much at my house, so I've decided to get a cup kid. All we can do is save one at a time (unless you are Martinismommy, of course!) and try to educate people. I even gave the "proper betta care" speech at work today.

I'm sorry you were upset, molliemom3, but you have a lot of people here who understand.

I've seen that before too, I went to petsmart about 3 weeks ago and saw a dead betta in a cup. I was so mad, I complained to the managment on how wrong that was!

Unfortunatly some times thats all you can do, but at least you can bring it to there attention .

Does anyone know the legality of pet stores not taking care of fish?
