Help: Flake food as sub for ammonia

I am wondering what the consensus is on using flake food instead of pure ammonia for fish-less cycling. I hope its not too late, because I have gravel from an established tank in my tank and have already added some flake food. I won't be able to get pure ammonia until tomorrow, so will my bacteria die?

Fish food takes a while to decompose down to ammonia... not sure how long... maybe a day or so, but the bacteria should be fine until tomorrow =)
