1 gallon tank??
I just found a 1 gallon "tank" in my parent's garage. What on earth are you supposed to keep in something so tiny? Do people actually keep fish alive in these things?

People do keep them in 1g tanks, sad huh? With frequent water changes, they might live, but not thrive.
It would make a cool shrimp tank.

I can't think of anything to put in a 1 gallon......Does it have a filter?

Endlers, least killiefish, any of a dozen different freshwater shrimp species, sparkling gouramis, licorice gouramis, rice fish.

nope, no filter. It's just a plastic triangle shaped wedge with a lid (with holes for a filter I guess) and gravel at the bottom...
I have a 30g cycling and I'm going to set up a puffer tank next - I just can't believe how small this thing is! Are there fish in the trade smaller than 1"? I don't know what else would work ... brine shrimp?

There are many fish out there that stay under an inch.
They are just not often carried by the big chains.
It would be a good brine shrimp hatchery.

Yeah, that's the thing. I would think, most people who buy a 1g tank aren't going to be aware of fish other than what they see at the chain stores.

I have a few 1 gallon tanks I use for newborn fry, they work good for about a month with each batch until they get big enough to go with small fish.

It would be a good tank to grow snails in.

Yeah! For your puffers! You could just get a few common pond snails for free at the pet store and raise them for your puffs.

I purchase a 1gal plastic "tank" (Resun PA-230). It's a back-up hospital tank I got for treating (short term) my injured female Betta with Methylene Blue (MB kills all beneficial bacteria). It served its use since she recovered well!
I left an airstone running in it, since I might use it to hatch artemia... or experiment with local Almond Tree Leaves properties (I picked up a few dry leaves today)... I don't think of any commonly available fish that could have a happy life in there... maybe a tank in which to place a carrying female Ghost Shrimp...

I would just clean it, cycle it and keep a small sponge filter in it and let some snails do their business... It may come handy for emergencies.

Red1313 and peptj: Why would you want to raise snails? (Just wondering). I introduced a floating plant into my tank and now I have snails! (Ramshorn snails). I'm not sure if this is a good thing...

I would get a colony of small dwarf shrimp You could put a few low light plants such as java fern in there and maybe a small piece of driftwood. It could make a cool tank

I raise snails to feed to my puffers, as it's essential to their diet. Some other fish will eat snails as well.

As pinkfloydpuffer (by the way we lost Wright) snails are free protein food. I don't have puffers, but most my fish enjoy that snack. Oscars and Severums love baby Apple Snails.
Also, they do good gardening and algae control work and I find them annoying only when they seldom find their way into the HOB impeller. Having snails is probably a habit from the old days (1970s) I just can't live without.

They are good food for Puffers. And if you are going to set up a puffer tank, and you have a spare 1gal... Why not?
