just curious

Are there any fish that are immune to low levels of ammonia and/or nitrite - (say, 0.5 ppm?) - I'm just curious if it's a universal thing - I would never keep any fish in water showing anything but 0ppm - that's not why I'm asking.

i dont think theres a fish thats "immune" but "tolerant" maybe and by that i mean it could live in that water but it probably would be fairly stressful

zebra dainos maybe?

anyway im not exactly the expert around here but one of those should be here shortly

cherry barbs seem tolerant to low ammonia levels and nitrite doesn't seem to affect them much

Someone posted something similar about recently about cherry barbs being more toleant of nitrites, but I'd be leary of what permanant effect that and ammonia would have on them.

There are some fish that are more hardy than others, but its like subjecting us to polluted air for a certain amount of time, it will affect our health in the long run.
Guppies, danios, platys are hardy fish but you will make them more likely to get sick when you subject them to low levels of ammonia/nitrites, you are lowering their immune systems and taking their levels of dissovled oxygen out of their water making it harder for them to breathe.

Danios, they are amazingly hardy and tolerant.

Maybe that was me. The spikes in cycling tanks seem to have little to no effect on barbs, although I'm sure that bad conditions long term would harm them.

I thought it was, but I wasn't positive.

Yeah I'm sure it could shorten their lifespan if those conditions never improved.
