Made a mistake, my fish is paying for it
Hi you all.
I'm not the type of person who will bang myself easily. So let's focus on solution(s). My dearest fish Edda, female Betta, hurt herself with some flat-stones I placed in the tank.
The problem: I forgot to smooth the edges - - , she ended up cutting herself, and there's some white-coating in her body (a transversal cutting line) and in the left side of her face. This injuries likely occurred on Friday, but I just noticed today.
In the 1970's I used to treat bruises that lead to fungus/fungus-like lesions with methylene blue (MB) for a few days. Is it still advisable to use? should I use something different? If I go for MB I will place her in a small container - a despicable little bowl- since MB wipes out all beneficial bacteria.
That was really stupid on my part, but I can't take it back, just learn from it, and heal her. This shows that my knowledge in fishkeeping needs constant reminders, I have done this often -rearranging her tank- since she gets bored easily... Guess I was too excited of my newborn Oscars and my healing going well form pop eye female Kenyi.

Hi Pepe
Sorry to hear about the injury to your lil girl. I hope she does better soon. As far as I know, the MB is still being used for injuries and it sounds like a good idea to use it again. You can add some fish protector such as a brand w/ aloe vera in it along with the MB. Putting her in a smaller container and changing that water daily with the right amount of meds should help to heal quickly. I know your area stays warm so you can get away without the heater right?
Good luck with her and btw... congrats on the Oscar fry!

Yes, to tie Kate and Shawnie's threads together, Stress Coat+ contains Aloe Vera. It also locks up ammonia like Prime does, so it should help with her being in a unfiltered bowl.
I hope she gets better soon!

I agree with everyone.
Don't kick yourself, you tried to give her the best home and mistakes happen.
Keep her water clean to prevent infection, the bowl won't hurt as a temporary place to help her heal.
I hope Edna gets better quickly.

I purchased a plastic 1gal "tank" (Resun PA-230), will use some substrate and decor for her to hide/sleep. No plant can survive Methylene Blue (MB) so... let me check again: Is it one drop of MB per gallon still the recommended doses?
I'll place an airstone and a small desk lamp to keep the water warm for her. I'll begin medication tonight (still need to purchase the MB).
Thanks for your support

Hey Pepe,
Everybody else already got you taken care of with the MB and the StressCoat. She'll be fine in her 1 gal sick tank until she can get back to her beautiful home. It's just the same if we get sick and have to go to the hospital for a while, nobody likes hospital rooms and hospital beds, but we get well and then we go home. Don't beat yourself up, you are a fine fishkeeper doing a wonderful job with your finny kids. Praying all will be well. Congrats on Moon and Luna's babies!!!

Update: The aftermath of Hurricane Ike -which fortunately spared us from a direct hit- brought some tropical depression, with intermittent but heavy raining and thunder storms. Traffic was crazy, and couldn't find MB until today (major chains don't sell MB, but it's easily found in small drugstores). So I finally got it today and placed her in the "mini-hospital" tank. I placed two mid-size river stones inside and covered the airstone with a filter fiber pad -now I'm kind of paranoid of her bruising her lesions, she is so curious! aren't bettas supposed to be kind of slow swimmers and laid back? Definetely not her style!
Here are a couple of pics so you can see her bruised body. She has another cut (maybe two) that also looks whitey in the left-down side of her face.
Her colours in the pics are a bit altered (greener) due to the effect of the MB. Anyway, she's a gorgeus gal!

How's the girlie doing? I find female bettas to be intensely curious and nosy and not laid back in the least.
One of mine got quite seriously cut when she got sucked up in the siphon. I was really afraid she wouldn't survive, but with extra super clean water, this big gash healed completely in about 5 days! I"m sure your girl will be fine.
Oh, and I felt simply rotten and horrible for letting this happen, although I was being careful.
Here's mine.

That was a nasty injure she got there, good work Barbrella! Your girl looks like she goes to the gym and works out a lot!
Update: I am changing her water every third day, she seems at home in that tiny place, changing sleeping/resting places at will.. but one her wounds is not (at least visibly) improving (although not getting worse). Her cuts at the face area are almost totally healed , it's that huge bruise in her body that worries me now .
Should I consider using real medication with her? or should I just wait a bit longer and give the Methylene Blue a couple more days? What would you do?
Thank you
Pepe
PS your support has been superb, and is pretty much appreciated, thanks again.

Just a note on that, i have a male betta and he does seem to be very laid back, he prefers to rest in plants and decor, but occasionally will come out and intimidate my danios, who scatter when he swims near them, lol i think alot of it is based on the fish, fish are like people they all have there own style, so in other news, hows she doing?

pepetj, if your girl is in a little bowl - how big and what is the temp? - I would want to be changing her water every day.
That's what I did with mine and that's what quickly healed those really deep gashes she had.
Personally, I don't like to use meds unless there is some secondary problem like fungus, rot or infection.

Somehow she got better, I have no clue how this happened. At noon time today, her -yesterday still not looking good- cut was almost gone. I moved her back to her tank.
She was at a 1gal plastic "tank" (Resun PA-230) with a drop (or two) of Methylene Blue. Temp within 28-29C. I was doing partial water changes every third day, since it was a Not Cycled "tank".
