Ghost Fish Fighting?

I have 5 ghost fish in my 29 gallon tank which is still cycling...it seems like it is taking forever to cycle and I want to do it naturally because I heard that is the best way...but anyway I noticed a couple days ago and tonight that my ghost fish seem to get very close to one another then start knocking heads and thrusting...Now I heard that there is not much known about these fish in terms of breeding, so I thought it would be super rare that they were trying to breed. I figured they are fighting for standing in the school. Does anyone know about this?

I don't nkow what you mean by 'Ghost fish', but you will need to be doing 50% water changes every day until the tank is cycled to stop the fish getting poisoned my ammonia and nitrites.
Cycling with fish is the WORST method, to those reading this.

I think some places sell Glass Catfish as Ghost Fish, I could be wrong though.

The fish is well-known for its nervousness in captivity, some of which may be mitigated by generously planting the background of its aquarium. K. minor does like to swim in open spaces, so the aquarium cannot be completely stuffed with plants, but their presence will make a world of difference in the attitude of the fish.

Maybe this has something to do with it?

When you say you're cycling naturally, what does that mean?

Is your aquarium info correct and you have ammonia and nitrites?
I agree with Hatchet, about the water changes. They could be reacting the the toxins in the water.

In his profile, it says ghost catfish. I do not know much about those however.

They are glass catfish, also called 'ghost fish.' I am cycling the tank and know to do 50% water changes until it gets down. Cycling naturally means without biospira. I don't know why they are aggressing towards each other though. There are plenty of plastic plants in my tank, mostly floating plants which they love to swim under. There is a big ceramic coral structure in the center and on the side of the tank. The big one in the center has an aerator the one on the side, one seems to like to hide in.

when fish have ammonia present, they can do weird things...try to find some prime if you can..with your daily water changes, prime will neutralize the ammonia for 24hrs until your next water change...goodluck!

We had 3 in our 120g, one chased the other two around forever...it's part of the reason we sold them. They were disrupting the rest of the tank. It is breeding behavior but I don't think anyone has bred them in captivity...or not too many people. They should be in at least 50gs...your tank is too small which is another reason why they are fighting.

Allie, you researched the wrong fish. I do not have a black ghost knife, I have a 'glass catfish,' also called a "ghost fish" or 'ghost cat.' The tank size is fine. The minimum requirements for them is a 10 gallon.... Thanks for trying to help anyway.

Here is a link to the profile of the type of fish I have. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...catid=2519&N=0

I think maybe they are upset because I put my gourami back into the 29 gallon? They seem to have split from their group of 5 to a group of 2 and 3 in separate parts of the tank. I will continue to do water changes until the cycle is complete. Thanks guys!
