Going to back to FW

I have been wanting go have a FW tank again. I'm planning a 20 long since I want more room for the fish to swim more. I'm going to try to make a mini river with rocks, driftwood,plants...ect. Heres my list.

20g long

Might use my 28g filter or buy a new one (What do you think I should do?)

What king of gravel should I buy fine or coarse?

Heater(new) or use one that only does 80F

Rocks, dirtwood, real plants, and a natural background.

Some bubbles

As for the fish list: A shoal of cardinal Tetras(6), one angelfish(always wanted one), a kuhi loch, an african dwarf frog, some ghost shrimps, some snails, and two guppies(one male other female). I think I'm overstocked by like four inches. Thats not so bad and a long tank will keep them peaceful. Is the list ok?? Is it true you can keep more fish in a 20 long beacuse there is more floor space??

you might end up a lot more then 4 inches overstocked with 1 male and 1 female guppy!

Yea, I 'm planing on rasing them and giving them to my cousin. All his fish died. I think because he put aqua safe and other stuff in the water during a water change.

you are way overstocked, get rid of the guppies, angelfish, frog and shrimp. you should keep the heater at 80 degrees, have fine substratum, and use the same filter you have now. remember to only add 3-4 fish to a tank at a time, the kuhli loach may eat the snails

I'll try. I haven't posted pic of my SW tank because I don't have a camara.

I came up with 25" which is not very bad. The guppies will be ok. Ghost shrimp don't count as one fish because they don't make alot of waste. The frog are peaceful as I have read in the form. They angelfish will also be ok becasue the fish are peaceful. I'm not adding them in one day.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but... I dont think an angelfish will do well in a 20 gallon long. they get pretty big and need tall tanks. As for your stocking, dont follow the 1" per gallon rule, just use common sense. 10 inches of cardinal tetras will not produce as much waste as one 10 inch fish. Just slowly add fish and when its starting to look crowded, stop adding fish.

Angelfish are tall fishes with large fins. As the angel grows I don't think it will appreciate the short tank.

no offence to snake head but he has twice posted on stocking threads telling people they are extremely overstocked when they are not.

Your fishlist is fine. and it sounds like its gonna be great!

Snakeheads tank shows an example of overstocking (no offence snakehead)

a 20 gallon tank with rocks and wood will cut down the actuall amount ov water so recalculate and you would be a bit over with the angel and it wouldnt be ideal tank for the angel

A 20 gal long is not big enough or tall enough for an angelfish plus all the others. Angels can get up to 6" high and need tall tanks. A 20 long is only 12" high.

If you want guppies you should have more than 1 female guppy, since the males never stop harassing them.

African dwarf frogs have poor eyesight and are very slow eaters and are best kept by themselves.

Khuli loaches do not like being alone, so you should get at least 3 or 4.

I just want to make a mini river. I'm getting a standerd tank not long. I'll get two females and your right I use to have just one female and she was picked on alot. I'm also thinking about the frogs. They do seem to be slow. But they will have there share.I was reading about that the khuli don't like being by themselves. I will not get those since I will have ghost shrimps cleaning the gravel. As for gravel I'll get fine or medium since the snails might not like big gravel(makes it hard for them to walk). Should I use the heater that only hests to 80f or buy a new one?
