Might get 55-100 gallon tank

So im thinking of getting a 10 gallon freshwater tank, i dont have the time or money for saltwater so only freshwater. i have a 1 gallon tank with a betta fish. im looking to get a 10 gallon tank (maybe a little bigger) but im not made of money haha. i want some cool fish (shark types maybe) and a variety of stuff, not like 10 of one type but maybe like shrimp or hermit crabs or suckerfish idk other stuff so its like a real habitat with a variety. though i know 55 gallon would be more real but i dont got that kinda money. so what kinda of stuff can i get for that and how many of that stuff?

also can i put a frog in there? like a small one that can swim in the water with other fish? a frog would be cool...
so i looked on craigslist and they have good deals on like 55-100 gallon tanks and such so could i get a cool freshwater shark in that with other stuff? im hoping to get a freshwater shark...

Hi mako welcome to Fish Lore

Can I suggest you move the betta in the 10g? In order to thrive, they need a heated filtered tank.
Sharks need much more room than a 10g. Most small fish are schoolers, so there's not much variety you can get to fit in a tank that small.

Please read about the nitrogen cycle:

Cycle without fish, you'll be doing yourself a big favor and no fish lives will be lost.
Read up on any fish you decide to get, make sure you know their tank requirements and compatablity.

Good luck.

I'm not an expert on FW sharks by any means but, I do belive that you need at least a 29 gallon tank to house a Red tailed shark, and I think those are the smallest FW sharks.

In a 10gal, you can't really have much variety. You should move the Betta up to it. (They need at least 2.5gal, heat and filtration!) African dwarf frogs usually get on with Bettas - same with corys and otos. Just add the other fish before the Betta.

Everyone here is right a ten gal is nice but it is a bit tight for anything fancy. You could divide it and get another betta. If you want a schooling type of fish you'll likely run into room troubles. You could try some dwarf neon rainbows if you wanted something different other then that keep looking around and asking questions I'm sure that someone has some good idea's for you.
Good luck

I'd suggest a few guppys but for some reason, you don't seem the guppy type. lol, The mention of sharks clued me in.

Possibly a few dwarf puffers? I've read you should allow about 3 gallons per puffer and keep 2-3 females per male.
If this interests you, research them further, I don't have personal experience with them.

Good luck.

I think it is possible to be successful with a 10 gallon tank. Although it takes more work. I do water changes weekly of at least 25% (including vacuuming the gravel)...but with a tank that small, it's quick and easy. Mine has platies, snails, frogs (african dwarf), a golden chinese algae eater (who will be too big soon and will move to my 55 gallon), and a siamese shark (an algae eater that is full grown at 1.5"). I had ghost shrimp for a long time but I think someone in the tank realized they made a tasty treat, so no more ghost shrimp for me.

As far as frogs go, yes you can get frogs to live in your tank. African dwarf frogs are the ones I have seen and I currently have 2 of the 'jumbos' (~2.5") in my platy tank. They don't do much swimming, but they are funny little characters and like to entertain. They stay on the bottom most of the time and at other times, they suspend themselves in the middle of the tank in what reminds me of yoga poses.
