Treating a divided tank

If I'm treating a divided tank with medicine, will it treat both sides of the tank?

What are you treating for/what are you using?

Your divider should be allowing lots of water flow through the divider (since generally there is only a filter on one side and a heater on the other - you need some current), so if you're set up that way, I can't see how it wouldn't be treating both sides.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I'm treating with triple sulfa for fin rot.

Yes, you should be treating the whole tank, and are if the divider is allowing good water flow. Good luck with your treatment, fin rot is definitely no fun.

I'm pretty sure it's fin rot, but I don't know how my betta would have got it. When I first got him, his fins were beautiful, but now his tail is looking really torn up. The water parameters are perfect. The only way I could think of that he got it was if he already had it when I got him, but when he was introduced to my tank, something triggered it.

I would check to make sure he isn't biting his fins as well.. I haven't had a betta that does that, but i've heard a lot of stories about them doing that on here

Why would they bite their own fins?

They get bored mainly. People seem to recommend adding some sort of entertainment for the little guys, like a floating orange ping pong ball i think was mentioned once before. Another person put in a mirror a couple times a day so he could flair at it. I havent had the problem yet so no personal experience. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Also changing around the tank decor is supposed to help prevent boredom.

Bowie is missing the bottom half of one of his pelvic fins and I am convinced that he bit it off out of frustration/boredom during my vacation a couple weeks ago (I was out of town for 3 days, and he's never been left alone longer than a workday before.)
Changing the tank decor/rearranging, providing new toys on occasion, and most importantly interacting with them regularly can help soothe their restless nature and keep them from tail-biting. I change things around a little in his tank once a week (he is the most high-maintenance as far as entertainment is concerned) and spend at least 15-20 minutes a day with him, for a few minutes in the morning, a few minutes when I get home from work, and a few minutes before bed. Tail biting is supposedly a very rare habit in bettas but I think it's more common than most people think in "depressed"/lonely/bored fish. They're so emo.
