My betta had some torn gill tissue when an ammonia problem filled the tank, and his gills literally regenerated themselves with water changes and the use of stress zyme. I recommend it.

I'm no guru at all. In short I find it to be a good product.
I have used, and intend to use again, API's Stress-Zyme, usually used and sold together with Stress-Coat, they are very good water conditioners in order to remove chlorine/chloramines, and to add protective agents for the inhabitants of our tanks when performing routine partial water changes in allready cycled tanks. Of course you can use Stress-Zyme to treat your source water when starting a cycle.
I used it when I cycled (fishless, thanks to fishlore) my first tank last May. When it finally cycled, after the water change, I used it with Stress-Coat and added the first fish (a female Betta), a couple of days later, I used it again when added a school of eight Zebra Danios.

stress zyme is a filter booster it contains live bacteria which helps speed up the good bacteria in the filter...works wonders
stress coat is like the liquid bandaide that someone sayd..heals with aloe and also makes the fishies feel better

Stress Coat is a dechlorinator and helps with their slime coat. Honestly, I used Stress Zyme once and felt like I wasted my money, but it looks like others have had better results with it.

I'm alone here in not agreeing with the benefits of Stress Zyme.
http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...ductId=2754033
It says "Continuous use assures an active biological filter"
Why continually use it if you've already established a healthy bacteria bed.
It sounds like Cycle to me but at least Cycle lists the ingredients.
On a side note....I love Stress Coat. lol
Maybe I should shut up now. lol

no way dont you dare "shut up" LOL thats a swear word in my house hahaha ...
stress zyme isnt like cycle..its more like a weaker non consitrated version of bs..and now its even improved with a bit more bacteria than before..(so it says) ...its mainly to help the bacteria along thats in the tank and to start the cycle process if there is no bacteria...its not as concentrated as bs, but very similar to it.....so if you use it, yes you continue to use it for two weeks then your cycle should be well on its own without it..I had to use it before I got my hands on bs...but after the 2 weeks, my 30 gal cycled before I got bs...you use it on the 1st day of set up then the 7th day then the 14th day and thats how I cycled my 30 gal....its not required to keep using it once your cycle is complete, although it says its a great water conditioner as well, unlike the product cycle..which unless you use it often, the bacteria dont make it ... does that make sense or should I "shut up" also hahahahah (dont tell my kids I said that word!!)

Thanks Shawnie for the info.
lol, I just wrote to them and asked them what the specific name of the bacteria is......I'm such a pain, I know it
My husband says I'm like a dog with a bone.
Here's an interesting read on it:
http://cms.marsfishcare.com/files/ms...szyme_2448.pdf
It says the bacterial culture is 0.01% of the ingredients.
I'm in way over my head.

god I love ya woman!! LOL
the New & improved bottle that I just got, says "Super concentrated formula contains 15% more bacteria than the original Stress zyme" and ive just always compared it to a weaker version of bs as I was unable to get my hands on bs back in March...be interesting to see what the company says back to you ...keep me updated!

I'll definitely let you know, it would be great if it lived up to it's claims.
Obviously a lot of the members have had luck with it.

Well, I first used biospira in my 28gal, and I got a bad batch so it didnt work. Then, I was cycling my 5 gal fishless (with ammonia and seed from old filter) and I got stuck in the nitrite spike. Desperate, Having an unused bottle of stress zyme I thought "well, got nothing else to do" then, I added it and two days later I was cycled.
Nevertheless, I didnt think that it was a miracle product. I just thought what shawnie already said, that it "helps a bit". and that help was enough to get me out of the nitrite spike.
Note: I'll never know if I would have gotten out of the nitrite spike, at the same time, without the stress zyme anyways.
