Hello,

I have recently purchased a betta who isn't getting on with his tank mates in the main tank, so i've had to move him to a hospital tank. I'm now looking for a permanent tank for him.

Would a baby Biorb be suitable? (15 litres). I originally wasn't planning on buying a 2nd tank, this is only a last resort because he can't stay in the main tank, and I'm limited by space in the house.

If I can get the baby Biorb, would it also be ok to put some neon tetras and/or corydoras in with him?

I have never used a Baby BiOrb but from the info I see online the size (4 gallons) is decent for a betta. If it doesn't have a heater / a way to equip it with a heater, however, I would say forget it.
The price seems a little steep to me: $70 for a 4 gallon, when I paid just $40 for my 6.6 gallon bookshelf (HIGHLY recommend for bettas).
I would not keep him with tankmates, period, esp. not in a smaller tank. Maybe in a larger tank, the corys could be okay (have a backup plan) but definitely not tetras.

The only problem with the biOrb is surface space. Bettas need lots of surface area to come up and breathe. Most of them aren't suitable for Bettas for that reason.
For the price of the BiOrb you could buy a rectangle 5g tank .

The general consensus from replies so far is that biorbs are not suitable! Back to the drawing board and I will look for a normal tank. How about these:

Can anyone tell me how the filter works on these tanks where it's built in to the hood? How does the water get up there? I assume it's a tube sticking in to the water, but does the tub go down to the bottom? If so, does that mean I cannot use sand as substrate?

You really don't want to use sand as a substrate for Bettas as they tend to pick at it and swallow it. Smooth glass marbles are nice looking and safe.

I haven't looked over all the tanks, but if they are Eclipse hoods, or similiar... there is a tube that sticks down out of the lid. It doesn't go all the way to the bottom (at least, not on my 5g hex), only I think 2/3 the way down? I don't have the tank set up right now, or I'd just snag pics.

On my Eclipse hood the water flows back out opposite side of the tank (from the tube) after flowing over a filter insert, then over a bio-wheel. Really quiet, and works really well.

About tankmates. Almost ALL (99%) of all Bettas will only have success with the following tankmates: Corys, Otos and Snails. However, that tank would be far to small to house him with tankmates.

TETRAS AND OTHER SCHOOLING FISH ARE THE WORST BETTA TANKMATES! They cannot resist nipping his fins, and once one is addicted they all are.

I find all my Betta love the length of a regular 5g tank. I have been using marbles as a substrate for my betta. It's much easier to clean. Not natural looking but my fish don't mind it. Oh and silk plant not plastic...they can tear betta fins so easy.

I think the 2nd and the 3rd one look good. they are different brands than we have here but they look ok. i like that the 2nd one has filter and heater and decor already (less to buy)

I have my single bettas in the following two tanks, and i like them both, don't if they're available where you live:

Mini-bow 2.5
and Eclipse 3.0

I don't know if this will help you out but concider gradge sales. There are a lot of used smaller tanks out there that would probably make a very nice home for your guy. Some of them are pretty basic but even adding in the cost or a filter and heater they still might be the cheapest options. (I'm offering this b/c I've seen two today alone.) good luck.
