Gotta Love Garage Sales
My little boy has been begging me for a tank for his room. I've been telling him when the time is right we'd find something nice, and I've been picking up bits and pieces of aquarium goodies as I go along. So Saturday afternoon he and I were out and about and just headed home, when he spotted a garage sale that had a larger tank and a smaller tank sitting together in the yard. He asked me to go check it out and I did. I asked a few questions about the equipment, and was told "oh, all the stuff was my ex's and it's all got to go!" Now I'm surely caught in a fix, I feel bad she's getting rid of ex's stuff with great (and vocal) animosity, however.....I paid her the $3 she was asking for the lot and loaded it all in the back of my van. Got a 25 gal and a 10 gal and tons of extra goodies to go with it. My son and I got the bigger 1 cleaned up (finally) and we're gonna start Frankensteining him a nice set up tomorrow with all the extra bits and pieces I've got. It came with a filter called a "Whisper 10-20" unless someone tells me different I'm gonna guess that means that particular model will filter a 10-20 gal tank. If that is the case I think I'd like to put my old filter on the 25 gal as I know it would do a better job. Problem being is that the old filter box was cracked down the side in a previous tragedy. Does anyone know if I can repair the box with, say, superglue, and not kill anything we'd like to name? I mean, I'm sure the superglue would hold the plastic of the box, but I don't wanna leave any chemical residue behind to kill his future stock. I can always run the whisper filter on the 10 gal and never, ever have to worry about not having a Q-tank again.

Congrats on your new tank! $3 is a good deal for it.
About your filter, you gotta use hot glue. Normal super glue might have chemicals in it which will kill your fish! If hot glue doesn't work, then you'd have to get a new filter. Anyways, good luck with your new tanks and have fun along the way!

Thanks a lot folks, I'm off to the petsmart for aquarium silicone and light bulbs for the hood. It's gonna be over 100 outside today and they open at 9. I'd like to get the running around done and get stuff over with before we roast, the heat is killer this year. Fortunately I've got everything else clean and sterilized, sitting in pieces and buckets just waiting to be put together. Shoot, I think I'm just as much if not more excited than my boy!

Funny how garage sales become grudge sales when the ex's stuff has to go. You got a really good deal of a lifetime.

I just picked some up at the PetSmart. I wouldn't have a clue if you have a PetSmart in Malasia, but I'm sure they would have it wherever you buy all your other aquarium supplies. Worked like a charm btw, letting it sit for 48 hrs before allowing water to it though. Want to make sure I have a good seal.

Shawnie, got filter material seeding as I type. Actually saw your post right before we left and I'm glad you mentioned it, I had forgotten it on my list.

OK, I think there's a Petsmart in my country. Hope your aquarium works out well. Looking forward to hearing about it. Good luck!

If it screamed, why is it called a whisper filter?

My guess is if they named it the screaming filter it might not sell as well.
