The Tetra Safe Start isn't available anywhere around where I live -- I did finally find it here: http://www.paradisepetshop.net/en/tetra-safestart.html

I just got my first bottle of it yesterday and haven't had a chance to try it yet -- I'm helping my sister set up her tank this weekend and will let you all know how it works. The main thing I don't like about it already is it says to use the whole bottle at once and that it'll treat tanks up to 75 gallon. There's no WAY I'm using the whole bottle to treat a 5 gallon tank so I'll be trying to save some of the bottle (probably refrigerate it until I set up my next tank).

Where do I get Bio-Spira, I cannot find it at any local stores? Is there a similar product that may be more readily available?
Where in TN are you? There is a store near Nashville that always has it in stock. Also, here is what I would recommend doing if you do not want to return all of your fish.

I would do a 50% water change, refill the tank and do another 50% change right after using Prime water conditioner to treat the water before you add it. I would then start doing 50% water changes daily until the tank is cycled. Are you cleaning the filter regularly? Are you rinsing the media in tank water or tap? The filter should never be cleaned with tap water, in fact, I would only rinse the media in old tank water about once a month and replace it only when it is completely worn out.
