"fin nipping"

what exactly is fin nipping, is it just the fact that a fish will go after another or is it where a fish will rip or tear fins of others in a tank? If fish do get rips/tears in there fins does that heal? I am thinking that I have made a mistake by adding 3 balas (larger ones) to a tank with 1 smaller red tail. he was quite shy for a few days and eeryone was cool, now he just goes after them all the time.....

It's when a fish bites at the tails of other fish. Ripping them off. Imagine if someone was ripping pieces of your skin off. Same deal. I would do anything to fix it from happening.

Yes, ripped fins will normally heal.

But you can't keep bala sharks in 26 gallons. They grow over a foot long.

You'll need to take them back to wherever you got them, or get a giant sized tank.

Please research fish before bringing them home. Makes life much easier!

WELCOME TO FISHLORE!

Fin nipping is normally done by small and fast moving fish such as Guppy. They bite or tear off the fins which hurts the fish. It should eventually heal but slowly and with great care. Good luck!

They do heal on their own, but extra water changes to help the water stay super clean, garlic guard to help guard against infection, vita-chem and fish protector to speed healing all help the fish get and stay healthy.
