There wasn't a good spot for this in fish maintenance.

Hey this is a tank related question.
My betta in need of a new home and my only other tank currently occupied I went out and bought another for him. It's a rectangular 2.5 gal however it came with a glass hood and since I wanted a filter the lid doesn't work at all. I wouldn't worry about it except I've had alot of friends whose betta's have tried to see if they can breathe only air if you get the idea. I've looked all over the city but so far haven't been able to find anyone with a hood that small. The tank says that there is a hood for it sold seperatly but pet smart apparently doesn't carry that accessory. Anyway I'm gonna give the tank a few days to cycle before I move Coolie over. Any idea's what to do for a hood? I was thinking a piece of screen over the top but I don't know.

Screen should work just fine.

You may be able to get the existing glass hood cut to work with your filter.

I have the same tank with the same lid (at least I think so) and I used an in-tank filter which has worked fine. The tubing can just feed out of the side of the tank and the lid can sit on top of it. I'll try to take a pic when I get home. Its not perfect looking, but it works

I have this same tank and glass lid. It's not in use right now but when it was, I just lifted the glass and pulled it forward a little to allow room for the filter. It hung over the edge about half an inch. It didn't look pretty but it worked. I thought about trying to cut the glass so it would lie flat but never got around to it.

I wasn't able to find a hood for it around here either. I couldn't even find one online. I did find a light fixture for it that was only $10 but was incandescent. I've seen the flourescent light strip at a couple of petcos but it was $35
