New Fish Tank!
Well, I decided to buy a 2.5 gallon fish tank. I know I can't put alot of fish in it, but I would love a few fish in there! I want at least 2. Since I cant find a good heater to put in it (one small enough that it wont take up alot of space) tropical fish seem out of the question.
Any suggestions for a few fish combo's? I am preping it for a betta fish as an alternative... but I still would like more fish .
Spec's (what I have set up)
- 2.5 Gallon
- 12"x6"
- Filter
- Light
- Warm Enviroment
- 2 plants!
heres pic!

welcome to fishlore!! that tank is cool..and even for a betta your pushing the limits..5 gallons is best to get their personalities out and let them enjoy life..how bout some shrimp? those would be cool in there...otherwise, its too small for much

Welcome!
I'm sorry to say, but Shawnie is right. I can't really think of a pair of fish that I would keep in a 2.5 gallon as its forever home... 5 gallons is the smallest I personally would ever consider keeping a betta in.
Maybe a pair of Neons? Or guppies perhaps, but that is really pushing it.
At the end of the day, though, I'm sorry but I just don't think it would be good for any kind of fish I can think of to keep two in something that little. :/ It's a really pretty little tank, I hope you find something for it that you enjoy!

What about a few nano fish? would a few neon tetras work? and if you need to learn a bit about starting the tank i made a thread called "New 16 Gallon Tank" The people on here really put a lot of info on it. And Welcome to Fishlore

I don't know a lot about snails; I think that some of them can be kind of messy and might contribute too much of a bio-load for a tank that size... but I have also heard that they are "cleaners"... I hope someone that knows about snails comes along for you soon; I have a snail but only because I got him by accident in with some fish at the store!

Look into the 25w Visi-therm stealth heater, you'd probably have to set it low though. I have one of those litttle 7.5w but it doesn't keep a real consistant temperature.

I would like you to keep in mind that although these users are correct in saying that 2.5 gallons isnt ideal for any fish, I think you could succesfully keep two tetras, or a betta and a snail. The rule is 1 inch of adult fish to 1 gal. of water. Many bettas spend their lives in small cups or bowls: I think this is very sad, but as long as you keep the tank clean and keep good water chemistry, I think you could keep a happy betta or 2 tetras. Also from one newbie from another, there is always to learn than you relaize- keep researching! Good luck!

a betta could sustain life in there yes, but thriving and living happily is two different things...to get the real personality and almost puppy like characteristics out of a betta, 5 gallons is the minimum...I do agree he will live, but he wont be happy

I am thinking 2 male endlers. They are small and pretty, just make sure you get both males and not a female.

How about minnows? And they can live in unheated tanks.

I know this sounds weird, but ever since I read about the Nitrogen cycle on this website it peaked my intrest to try it out. Thats one of the reasons I went out an bought the tank!
