Wood used for reptiles pk for aqaurium?

There is a pet supplies place right near my house that sells wood that can be put it a reptile tank. Would this be an ok alternative to driftwood in my tank? If so, how do I prepare it?

I wouldnt see why not if you go thru the steps of boiling 5 or 6 times..as well as soaking it in water for a few weeks in between ...and as long as its new and not used with reptiles, IMO it would be ok...im sure others will have opinions aslo ...is it cheaper than the other types they sell for aquariums?

wow...hmmm id be leary then...maybe it will dissolve in water? I guess for that cheap, you could buy one small one and do the boiling then soaking and see how it stands up right?

are you close to beaches in NY? they have some amazing pieces there

The closest beach is on the Hudson - not the greatest place with all the chemicals in the water. The pieces are much smaller, that's why I figured that it couldn't hurt to try.

read the tag that comes on it. Sometimes they are treated for insects, these you cannot use. the others you can use.

I have used some wood for reptiles in my tanks before, but like Carol said, check to see if it has been treated with insecticides.

Well, I went & bought it today. It says cactus on the side, lol. I'm going to boil it tonight after my parallel parking lesson *shudders*.
