tank and stand compatibility

i got a 35g tank and am looking for a used stand

dimensions on the 35g are 36x18x12.5. I noticed that a 33g dimensions are 36x18x12

obviously the height being 18, that isnt important. but the .5 inch smaller tank stand.

anyway to use a 33g stand? anyone have experience with this?

Maybe my experience will help. I have a 29gal bow (tall tank) in a stand designed for a 20gal. Since the bottom area are almost equal, I decided to give it a try.
The front of my tank is curved, so in the middle it's a bit out of support.
I guess 1/2" could be better distributed by retrieving 1/4" at rear and front. I have had no problems at all so far, although I checked and checked, again and again, for stability during the first weeks of setting it up.

I would really want to have the entire perimeter supported. I would throw a piece of 3/4" thick plywood the same dimensions as your tank between the tank and stand. And then split the difference as peptj suggested
