surface residue during cycliing

ive been cycling my tank for a week now with fish food and shrimp. and im getting a slimy white layer all along my surface.

just wondering what is it? what is the cause? and how do i get rid of it?

any help would be appreciated. cheers

How much circulation does the tank have? Sometimes organic matter can build up on the surface if it is too still.

I'd add aeration to the water. It should break that up.

Hi and welcome.

Make sure that your filter is strong enough to turn your water aswell.

What type of filter are you using? Usually the filtration provides sufficient movement without additional aeration.
