Last Friday I went to my favorite LFS and visited with the owner again about the angelfish. She assured me that she could show me how to keep them in my current stocking plan. I said "oh yes fish guru, show me the way". Well, I didn't say exactly that for fear of being thrown in a home somewhere, but I left with 2, a male and female, Koi anglefish. Got them home quickly, 'cuz this is Oklahoma in July, the heat is awful, and introduced them slowly to their new tankmates. They seemed shy and went into the plants, but after a bit the girl swam out and started following my finger around the tank...just like in the store. I was on top of the world. Just like any other normal Friday night the kids invited guests over and I went to fix dinner. This is where the nightmare begins. As I am standing at the sink doing dinner dishes, the children were playing rough in the living room. My daughter's boyfriend trips, hits the wall behind him, thereby knocking a picture off the wall, which then crashes into the filter box of my aquarium, breaks the box and sends water all over the electric outlet. Thank God it only blew a fuse. So, I had 2 brand new angelfish in an already stocked tank with no filtration...it's 8:45 at night and PetSmart closes at 9. I made it in 13 minutes (mini-van can move when it wants too

) got a new, better filter...used the old filter media to "feed" the box and have done 1 large water change the day after it happened and then a smaller change today, just to make sure. Everybody seems happy and healthy, the water tests are good, with the exception of the first day of the new filter operation. I did see nitrites rise a bit then. So now I finally have my angelfish that I fell in love with over 30 years ago. I can honestly say that I have wanted them since I was 11, and it's a dream come true. They are beautiful.
