Don't Know What To Pick....
So I have a 20 Gallon tank that I will be putting back up once I move, meaning that I would love to have some fish in it. The problem is that I do not like nor want small fish, a betta sized fish would be ideal and I want to have more then just one fish in a 20 Gallon tank. Anyone understand this so far?
Anyways, my question is... what type/breeds [?] of fish are out there for a newbie that are like betta size? I really do not want small sized fish and I much much much prefer one's that can have at least two or three of the same kind.
[My first thing was to get a few FEMALE bettas and have them together, but several others have said its a bad idea..]

You could have mollies or platys

Well you could get a pleco for the bottom, bristlenose because they stay small (not too small, around 4 inches) and then you could have a trio of swordtails, they get quite large, expecially the male ( about 5 inches if you include tail)
or
A gourami would work out nice, a dwarf or sunset maybe a pearl.

I love my platys! You could get 3-4 (preferably males, so no babies!) and a BN pleco. That would make a nice tank in my opinion.

Angelfish grow way too big for a 20 gal tank.
You could put one Pearl Gourami in there, with the bristlenose pleco and some tetras or Cherry barbs.

What about the Swordtails? I think that's what there called, there not to small but also not to large.

Most Males get to about 4", not counting their tails. I have one male Red Wag Tail and he's cool.

How many of those would be comfortable in a 20 gallon tank? Or even a ten gallon?

1" of small fish per gallon, so 5 Male Swordtails in a 20g, or maybe 1 Male and 4 Females if you'd prefer (they are live bearers though, so there will be babies). 2 Males in a 10g would be okay.

The males are the one's with the "sword" extension on their tail fins. The females do not have this. For me, my Swordy was supposed to be the "centerpiece" fish in the tank, so I wanted a male for sure. You may not be as picky.
There are also a lot of different types of Swordtails which changes the way that they look. Find some you like!
