Bottem feeder or not?

Is it a good idea to get a bottom feeder in a tank with goldfish?

Gold fish are cold water fish and most of the bottom feeders I know are warm water fish, so you cant put them in the same tank. What you should do is feed your gold fish food that sinks to the'bottom of your tank, cause gold fish are, as far as I know, bottom feeders themselves.

Yeah, I agree with Charmaine! You don't really need bottom feeders when you have goldfish. Goldfish ARE bottom feeders and sometimes they'll swim at the bottom nibbling or searching for food at the bottom.

Hi Harleysmom! I have been under the impression that goldfish are actually a species of carp, therefore they are bottom feeders themselves. I wouldn't think that you would need another one. If you especially want another bottom feeder in your tank, there are species of snails that don't increase the bio-load much and are facinating to watch (yes, snails can be interesting). However, I really don't think the snails would handle cooler water temps the goldfish need. If I am mistaken, somebody pop in and correct me, please.

100% correct. You can not mix cold water fish with warm water fish including snails. The gold fish will clean the bottom of your tank on their own. So I don't think you need to get any bottom feeders.
