I went to a petshop chain store (I wont say which) to get info on setting up a new aquarium. Just about everything they told me has been false. My advice is; Do not rely on what the salesperson tells you! Do your homework. If I had done a little research before setting up my tank life would be so much easier. Thank god there are sites like this.

Well said! We have all been there and have learned the hard way after getting wrong advice from a sales person at a LFS. We are lucky to have forums like this as a wonderful refrence tool

I can't begin to tell you how many times Fishloreans helped us save our fish.. once in a while, you'll find LFS clerks who'll actually know what they're talking about, but they never stick around unfortunately.
