What fish can i put in a 2.5 gallon tank

I am wondering what type of fish i can put in my 2.5 gallon tank? It has a filter and a air pump. I was wondering about getting 2 goldfish and a snail and a couple of ghost shrimp. Or 2 female bettas with the snail and the shrimp? Please help dont know what to buy!!!!!!!!

you can fit ONE betta in that tank...but they even like a 5 gallon best...or maybe some shrimp...but NO on the goldies ...one goldfish needs at least 20 gallons so two would be way over stocked...even tho fish arent big in size, their waste is huge....goodluck

For most fish, you'll want a 25w heater too.

Really a 2.5 gallon is too small of a tank for any fish to be kept in if it is to thrive, but as previously stated a single betta can survive in one decently. Other than that you might try one of various types of shrimp. I would say no to guppies, mollies, platies, angelfish, goldfish, swordtails, hatchetfish, glofish, danio, and any of the other commonly kept fish all for the same reason... the tank is too small for much of anything to do well in.

You can keep a Red cherry shrimp colony. Read up on www.PlanetInverts.com, www.Petshrimp.com about them. You will need a 25watt heater as well. You can get quite a good ammount if money selling them to the LFS - they go for around $2 each, plus they are prolific breeders. They are great little critters though!

Also need to remember that if you are planing on putting decorations in your tank, you are minimising you swimming space by at least half. I would strongly suggest you get yourself a bigger tank. At least a 40 letre tank wich amounts to about 10 Gallons.

Male Fighting Fish or a pair of Guppies or a catfish.

Good luck!

I'm sorry, but to clarify something previously said:

Catfish would not be a good idea for a 2.5 gallon (10 liter) tank. Even the smallest of catfish need more area than that to be comfortable. Technically it could handle the bioload of 2 corydoras, but they should be kept in groups of 3 and in nothing smaller than 10g to give them adequate moving space and scavenging room.

Guppys would need more swimming space as well. A Betta would do well in there I guess (I had one in a 3gal and he was thriving!)

Agree. I have a 2.5 gal tank with one tiny little betta girl, and that's the most I would put in there.
