welcome to fishlore!! as far as adding more fish, you are at the limit...depending on what kind of tetras, you could be overstocked..

Hi and welcome!

You could add a few shrimp in a tank that size (6 gals.), but no more fish.

As for plants, we need to know what kind of light you have on the tank.

25 liter is what, like 5 gallons? 4 tetras is about all that can go into that size of a tank without having bioload issues. I would suggest not putting anymore fish into the tank, but maybe trying some plants to make it look cool. Amazon sword plants have a nice appearance. Cryptocorne are interesting. Anubias (Ann-eww-by-us, not A-new-bus ) are slow growers but have wide leaves and look nice. Water sprite either left to float or planted looks nice, also.

Does your tank have a hood? Is there a place to screw a light into it?

If there is, you can get an 11 watt compact flourescent bulb. That will grow the plants that ChiefWaterchanger mentions.

Anubias and Java Ferns don't need to be planted. You can tie them to a rock or piece of wood. To actually plant other species, you need around 2" of gravel.

Tetras are schooling fish. It's much better to have all the same kind, like 5 Neons instead of 1 or 2 of each.

So. First - what is a Blackmoor tetra? I've never heard of them, and I've been doing some pretty serious research on the Tetra family recently. Second - your tank needs to be cycled first. Read up on that here: http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm Third - your mix of fish is really overloading that sort of tank. The minimum tank size for Neon tetras (Smallest tetras) is 10gal for a small school of 6. The minimum tank size for larger tetras like Black phantoms and Cardinals is more like 15gal. They all need to be in a school of at least 6 of their own kind. In your tank, not only is it overstocked - but the fish's requirements have not been met! I think you should actually take those fish back to the shop, and cycle your tank, then think a bout getting some fish - trust me it will be way easier for all of you!

Also, if you do not have a filter, then it is 110% neccesary! Go buy one ASAP if you don't. You also need an API master test kit.

Ah - if your looking for advice on plants, you cam to the right place. First, you will need a flourecant light fixture of at least 5watts. 10W will be better it will allow you to grow more plant species. So, when you have that installed, you can add plants. Try these plants in there: Anubias, (Must be tied down to rock or wood, or if you plant it in the substrate the rhizome must be above the substrate) Crypts, Hornwort, Ancharis, Hygrophila, Java fern and Java moss.(The Java species need to by tied down to rock or wood)

failed at my current tank. Epic fail.
BUT, now im getting a 45 gallon tank and NITROGEN CYCLING.

PLANTS: giant honwort, corkscrew vallisneria, wide sagittaria, hygrophila and water sprite.
LIGHTING: 25 watts for 12 hours per day, fluroescent (?)
FISH: the fish i like are kuhli loaches, bristlenose catfish, dwarf gourami's, killifish, and neon tetra's.

1. can these go together happily?
2. is my tank big enough for some of these?
3. what do i use on the floor of the aquarium? kuhli loaches prefer sand, but how will the plants go with this?
4. If i had these fish in a tank, i would want 3 kuhli loaches so that they can school, 2 bristlenose catfish, 8 neon tetras and 2 dwark gourami's. but im well aware that in a 45 gallon tank this would be far too many. help?

Thanks for all your help (:

I think those fish should do just fine in your tank, as long as you don't go overboard with the quantitys of your fish. As for the bristlenose i would recomend that you get one unless you want to breed them. Neon's, get 6 instead of 8. Hope that helps

The lights should be on for more like 8 hours a day. I don't advise Dwarf gouramis - there's a disease going round them called iridivious - well just look here: Before you buy a Betta right now a word of caution.

So, if you minused the DG's, upped the Kuhlis to 6 (Schooling fish need at leas t 6 - it can make the difference between seeing your fish and not with Kuhlis!) you'd have space for about 15" of fish. I think something like Zebra danios or Guppys would be nice for that space.

I live in Australia, is the disease going around here too? What if i got 2 pearl gourami's and quarantined them first? What im trying to do is put together a happy and attractive tank, but i don't know which fish would make it happy OR attractive.. what would you do? Thanks for your help (:

It's going around everywhere, since it originates from where the fish are bred. I haven't heard of Pearl getting it - but if exposed to it they probably will catch it.

For now, it just seems to be some Gourami from the Asian market. If you get Gourami, look for locally bred ones.
