Tank by a vent?

I want to set up a new tank, like a 20-30 gallon, and the only place that i can even possibly put it is over a vent and under a window. would it be alright to put a tank even close to a vent or under a window? or would the temperature changes kill my fish? Thanks for the help!

well, it wouldnt be getting direct sunlight, but i would probably getting some. I was thinking i could maybe get a school of small tetras, like neons or cardinals. I then would either get a BN pleco or 3-4 otos. Then i want either one or two larger peaceful fish to be kind of a center peice. I was thinking maybe a angelfish, or somthing like that. Thanks again!

I have one tank in front of a window however I have the window covered w/ a insulated curtin that keeps the light, heat and cold out (those things are expensive btw) the temp stays constant in the tank at 78.6 I have a stealth heater in the tank.

I am setting up another tank which will be by a vent however I am going to get one of the vent things that deflect the are the opp way to keep it from blowing anywhere near the tank.

I think the key would be keeping the tank from direct sunlight and having a heater that cuts off when it reaches a set temp not like the heaters that have + and -

I've had tanks under a vent and under a window. With the cover/lid and a good heater, the tanks kept steady temps.

I guess if you have an open stand that would have the vent blowing on the underside of the tank, you could get a piece of rigid insulation (that stuff that is like styrofoam and comes in sheets) and stick it to the underside of your tank.

But a deflector would probably work okay.

you will have to monitor ur temp.. Some fishes are sensative to temp fluctuations .. I'd get a reliable thermometer. one that goes in the water.. I got a digital one.. im just lazy tht way.. but it does make it easy to read and the probe goes in the water.. i'd set it up where you want it without fishes and see if you can keep a stable temp.. you can also do a fishless cycle at the same time.. it will save you the frustrations of not losing fishes..

I guess one thing that helps my tanks I keep glass tops, and of coarse like I mentioned above the stealth heaters that you set the temp and it cuts off if it goes above that temp, my tanks always are the same + or minus .5 degrees
