Hi,

1 of my Siamese Flying Fox has been hanging around at the top of the tank for the entire day.

Should I be worried ?

usually they like the bottom or resting on plants and are active swimmers..so I would say that is unusual...have you tested your water parimeters? I hope hes ok

Hi Shawnie,

Thanks for the reply.

I just did a water change a few days ago.
Anyhow I tested the water and everything is fine.

A few mins ago I just noticed a tiny wound on its body.
I have taken it out of the main tank and transferred it to a QT.

Can they handle medication like Mollies?

Thanks.

Your welcome...Im not to keen on meds and dont know alot about them..but I do know one thing, great meds to help fish when sick that are great for every week use, is vita-chem, garlic guard, and fish protector...all of those will make him feel much better but as far as his boo boo, I hope someone will step up to help you with that ...could be a swim injury, parasite, or even an ulcer..all things I hear fish get..but either way, those 3 I mentioned, and daily water changes to keep him nice and clean, will help alot until someone comes along...maybe get a pic of him if you can? that might help others also...I wish him well

was this fish in the same tank as the gourami that you had problems with?? I am wondering if you have something infectious going on in the tank. Did the wound look like the wound on the gourami?

Hi All,

Thanks for the consolation.
Honestly, I didn't think I wld lose the fish so quick. Rather depressing.

It was a active fish & worked hard on the algae. It was growing real big like his peer. Never gave any problem until now.

sqrlyshrly1, his wound isn't similar with the gourami. The gourami has been living in another tank since it fell sick. The rest of the fishes in the main tank are fine. In fact, the baby mollies are thriving and growing well in the main tank. They have been in the same tank since birth. I really can't figure. I am still in shock & feeling rather blue.

Sorry to hear that Zeebo. Keep an eye on the fish real close and make sure none of the others develop any similar wounds.

Have you noticed any signs of agresion in any of your fish

Hi lalynya,

There has been some but they have never been serious.

The Mollies chased one another around all the time. Usually its the Males chasing the females for obvious reason.

The Balloon Rams will knock against each other every now and then.

BGK will chase fish away when he hunts for food.

Other than that, nothing dramatic and serious. The Siamese Flying Foxes are usually left to themselves. They can zip from point A to point B in a flash. Its difficult for other fish to catch up with them. Among themselves, they don't fight. I never expect to lose any as they seem so hardy.

There is very little information available on Siamese Flying Fox. If anyone has any experience with this fish especially what to do when they fall sick, pls kindly share.

Many Thanks.

Sometimes if fish are agressive with the lights on they may be even more so with the lights off and no one is looking...It almost sound to me that it may have been a case of agression. I relly don't think it would have been the mollies though..even the smallest nip can turn into a bacterial infection in fish even an ulcer..sorry but I don't know much about flying fox..wish I could be more help.
