If my 36 Gallon tank ever finishes cycling, I plan on adding 5 or 6 Bosemans Rainbows to it.

Now my question, what elese should I put in with them?

Some fish that I've seen that I like (but I am open to all suggestions)are Serpae Tetras, Odessa Barbs & Black Skirt Tetra's. In researching all of these fish, I am getting conflicting info.

you might want to decrease the amount of bosemans, these guys get up to 6" and 5 or 6 fish will already top out your tank. You might want to try dwarf neon rainbows, these guys are 2.5 inches and have a neon blue body with blood red fins.

Anyways, as tankmates (for either specimen you choose [boseman or neon dwarf] ) you could add almost any kind of tetra, but preferably larger robust species as rainbows might intimidate smaller tetras with their high level of activity. Examples are Congos, Bleeding Hearts, or Black Skirts (Standard or Albino, same personality either way). As for barbs, you'd want some peaceful, less rowdy species, such as Rosys, Odessas, Cherries, or Tictos. As for cleanup crew, you can have any species of Corydoras (bronze, albino, peppered, starbai, etc...), or a couple of Emerald Cories (Brochis Splendens). With rainbows, tankmate possibilities are nearly endless, just be sure to keep understock and within 36" worth of fish (look who's talking)

Thanks TFA101.

That brings up another problem with researching. Most of the websites I've checked say the Bosemans get from 3 to 4 inches, but I've seen 6 inches listed on one site. One site even claimed that you could put 15 Bosemans in a 20 gallon tank!

It's really hard to get good info when it is conflicting!

I agree with the Dwarf Neon rainbows. Saw some at my lfs the other day, and they're just gorgeous!!

When stocking, it's best to go with the biggest sizes listed. That way you won't end up overstocked. And it's not just size of fish, but activity level, waste output etc. Rainbows are quite active, so need more room than another fish the same size might.

Been checking out the Dwarf Neon Rainbows on the net. I definitely like them, now I just need to see if a lfs in my area has any.

I know at some smaller fish stores you can ask if they can order a particular fish. They have a list usually that is available from the buyer.
