Have a long-finned danio, want some neon tetras...?

I have a long-finned danio in my 7-gallon tank. She(?) had two other danios in there, but I had to take them out and return them. I want to add 5 neon tetras, and was wondering if they would be compatible with the one danio, or would she fin-nip, or be intimidated by the tetras?

Should I take her out before I add the tetras? Also, if I add the tetras and there's no other fish in the tank, is it OK to do all 5 at one time (over the span of an hour or so with careful acclimation) or is it not a good idea?

Thoughts and suggestions appreciated!

Hi calbears
Personally , I would stay with the danios . I think they are great little fish .
Just curious , why did you have to return the others ?

Hi CalBears24!
like Seedy I would just stick with the danios or just return that one you have and put neons in. Just don't put them all together cuz then you would be overstocking your tank. Neons grow to about 1.5" and should be kept about 6 of them so that would be too much in such a small tank or just get a nice betta which would work great.

good luck!

Danio's are a schooling fish, and 6 is usually the minimum number you should have to keep agression down. Also, they are a really active fish, so keeping them in anything under a 15 (due to swimming and bio-load) is really not a good thing for them. If I were you, I would try to bring the Danio back to your LFS.

I second that!

I third hat Barbrella seconded!

Neons would be overstocking a 7gal - and their minimum tank size is 10gal. A Betta would be a great addition to that tank as long as you returned the danio. You can't fit much in a 7gal!
