Some updates after the weekend!

I'll keep this short. Trying to get a blogging thread so I can post everything, maybe help some other beginners out there. In the meantime, I'll split this into two posts (each with pics!).

This weekend, the wife and I went out and spent WAY too much money. See, this whole thing (interest in the hobby) started last weekend when we bought my 8 year old son a Betta so he'd have a pet here when he comes to visit during the summer.

Well, we just listened to the people at the LPS and bought him a little Betta box (1 liter!), some water conditioner, food, gravel, and an aquarium. We threw him in there and bam. Well, since then I have OBVIOUSLY learned a lot more.

So, we went out and bought our little Betta a new house. We are using Tetra SafeStart to help him have a peaceful home. The tank is a 5G Tetra Hex 5. It came with a lighted hood and a top mounted BIO-Wheel filter. I also got him a submersible heater to keep his water at 78. My wife did all of the aquascaping.

He's a different fish now. He loves to show off and swim all over the tank! The toy in the middle has 4 different entry/exit ports that he loves to swim through. Enjoy the pics!

None of this would have been possible without all of your help! Thanks everyone!

So in addition to getting everything for the Betta aquarium above, we also bought a bunch of stuff for the 30g tank. I found out the hard way that we don't seem to have any good stores around the area for tropical fish supplies. Found some gravel and decorations, but I just went ahead and bought most stuff online at Drs. Foster and Smith.

So, this is a 30g tank. Once everything comes in, it will have 2-3 inches of gravel substrate, a Coralife Digital Thermometer, Visi-Therm Stealth Heater (150W) with a 100W Neptune backup heater, a Penguin BIO-Wheel Power Filter (200), 24" of flexible Bubble Wand, a Topfin air pump, air check valve, a hood with built in lighting, and various decorations.

Attached are some pictures of the aquascaping. The rest will come in the mail later this week where we will add the SafeStart and a few fish.

Thanks for all of the help everyone! Means allot!

I quit smoking 3 weeks ago. Fish keeping is a my new hobby. But, I use the mints to get through the cravings and I want to make sure I have enough mints to get me through them without becoming a pain in the butt.

That first pic also shows Masahari Morimoto's old "home." I feel so bad looking at that picture.

Oh, so sorry that I joked about it. Congrats on quitting and continued good luck with it!

I have a serious case of today.

I thought it was the same tank as the other pics, just at different distances.

The aquascaping looks great on the second tank also. Nice job.

Don't feel bad at all. You didn't know and I'm proud of quitting, so I don't mind sharing.
