Attaching 3D Background?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning on making a 3D background, and was just wondering how you make sure that it stays "attached" to the back of the tank? I have heard of people using magnets? Any other suggestions? Thanks,

Cory

Sorry for the confusion, but the background will be inside the tank.

Using aquarium safe silicone would work, just maaake sure theres not room for fish to get behind it and get stuck.

I've seen those before... how do you plan on making it?

I would suggest two things... they make that underwater glue (which you might be using anyways to make it??)

You could:

1) Just glue it to the back of the tank.

2) Use the glue or some other way to fashion magnets to the back or even the inside of your 3D coolness and then use the other side of the magnets on the outside of the tank.

I really am interested in this!!!! How big is the tank you are doing it for?!

Well, I'm really thinking about the magnets because while I think I will like it, I don't want it to be permanent if something happens. Another thing about the magnets is they would keep the background snug up to the background. One more question, would it be easier to run the filter and heat on sides of the tank, or just cut-out a slot for the intake tube of the filter? Thanks,

Cory

Interesting question....

How big is the tank?

Do you have a custom-made hood so you can put those things on the side?

What are you making it out of? Foam? Paint?

The filter I think would be fine if you cut a spot for it... The heater is the thing I would be weary of. I'd be worried of a fire or melting or something. If your heater can handle being on a side I would do that.

The tank's a 20 long. It just has a standard hood, so I will just build it up to just below the "lip" of the hood so everything will close properly. It's a secret what I'm making it out of
The heater's a Stealth, so I'm sure it can manage being stuck to the side of the tank

I was talking about the filter and heater sticking up out of the hood?

Oh, well I could just cut-out a section of my hood...Or I may just cut out a section of my background for the intake tube...the second option might be easier. Thanks,

Cory

We had one and our firemouth female juvi kept getting stuck behind it. She was hiding from the male who killed her later on.
