I have a little problem

In my oscar tank the is like a brown sludge forming all around the walls of the tank is this algae or what i try and do a water change every two weeks and i wipe it off and its like dirt? the water quality seems ok

hi josh...sounds like beginner tank algae bloom..cant remember the name of it..how old is the tank and how big is it? and what do you mean "seems ok"? LOL

Yea, that sounds like diatoms. Not harmful to your fish, just not pretty for the tank.

Is the tank cycled? If so, that's got to be diatoms.

i have the same in my tank. i just finished the cycle so i'm guessing is diatoms. it's like dirt all over the glass and decorations and it looks very dirty. i actually once heard here on this website that i should just scrub it with a sponge and i did a couple days ago to get rid of it but it's growing back again. i bought a new sponge and tooth brush to clean everything and just brushed everything in tank water cuz that's what i heard you are supposed to do.
please someone correct me if i'm wrong.
also is this going to stop or it is always going to be like that cuz the cleaning part was a lot of work. oh and there is a lot of sunlight where i have the tank so i'm guessing that's not helping it much?
