Malaysian driftwood problem

I put all my new driftwood in yesterday, the monapi, the treestump and then I tried adding my new malaysian piece but it wouldn't sink. I've read that sometimes a piece can take days, weeks even months to waterlog but I am wondering if there is anything I can do to speed up the process. Could I boil it to leech the tannins out and would that get it waterlogged quicker, does anyone know? Right now it is floating in a 5 gallon bucket.

Boiling should waterlog it quicker.
Malaysian driftwood should already be denser than water, but I suppose there might be an odd piece out periodically.

Yeah after doing searches I've learned that it's a very self-sinking wood. So either I got an odd piece or else it's not really malaysian as it was being sold as. It's a beautiful medium piece, dark brown.

If you keep it in the bucket I would weigh it down so the whole thing is submerged.

Hi Gamer, when I got my driftwood, I had to hold it down with some large rocks placed over it. By time I finally took off the rocks, it was totally submerged and didnt float any more. I think it took about two to three weeks for it to get water logged.

It was submerged in the bucket. It is submerged right now with a large river rock and has been for days.

I brought a pot of water to a boil with a piece of mopani wood in it, let it boil hard for 15 minutes or so, then let the water cool off to room temp with the wood in the pot. Next I soaked the wood overnight in a container of cold water. This got most of the tannins out and the wood sank easily.
