Soap!!!

Hi, I recently changed filter because my old one was rubbish.
In the mean time I decided to Salt my Ornaments because of Beard Algae (I dont think it worked).

One of the ornaments ended up in a soap bar, so I rinsed off all the soap and placed it into my tank. However, because it is a large plastic "Moss Ball" looking ornament I obviously didnt get it all off.

I noticed a very small piece floating in my tank which one of my fish managed to get before I did. Can anyone predict an outcome for me or a solution to stop a problem progressing?

Ooooo so sorry to hear your problem. Soap can be pretty toxic to fish. If it were my tank I would have already removed the fish to a holding tank, whether another tank or a clean (no soap) bucket while I emptied most of the water, removed the soapy ornament immediately and cleaned the sides of the tank.. and refilled with fresh new water. Maybe even some carbon in the filter may help at this point as well.
I hope that it was only a teeny bit of soap in your case... and that your fish are ok ?

I would suggest what Capekate said.

In the future, if anything touches soap, I would suggest never putting it in a fish tank after that point. Soap can cling to nearly anything after quite a bit of rinsing, and can be toxic to fish in pretty small amounts.

Ok weird, I thought I posted a response. Anyway, I agree with Kate also.
I might even go so far as throwing the moss ball out. It sounds like soap can really hide in it.

Welcome to Fishlore.

Yea, I'd agree on tossing the moss ball and cleaning the tank like Kate suggested. Also, use a double dose on water conditioner after refilling the tank. I'd suggest using Prime if you can get that.
