What kind of snails should I use?

I have 3 betta's, each will be housed in a 5 gallon tank. I would like to buy 1 or 2 snails for each tank, but am unsure which species of snail to buy, I dont want anything that will get overly large, but I want them to be able to clean the tank at the same time. ( I will be using a filter, but the snails are for a more thorough job.)

Does anyone have any reccomendations? There will be no other fish added with the betta's.

Malaysian trumpet snails work fine. They are kinda cute. I don't like snails but MTS are ok, the ramshorn snails that i have in my 29 gal really bug me.

Yeah, I'm not big on snails at all. I wanted to get some ottos or suckerfish, but the suckerfish have been known to be agressive, and the ottots I think will get to big and will eventually need their own food, thus making the point I wanted to get them useless lol.

Thanks for the info!

i have a juvenile albino Bristlenose Plecostomus in a 10 divided with Male betta and female on the other side. I move him back and forth every couple of weeks to keep down on the algae. I have 2 of them but one is in another tank i should put both of them in there until they out grow the 10. They leave each other alone i haven't had any problems, its just in the not to distant future i will have to move the plecos to a bigger tank since they grow to be 4 inches. Snails are the best bet even though they are ugly.

I just grabbed some Malaysian trumpet snails for my 10 gal betta the lady at the pet store thought i was crazy when i asked for them. She gave them to me for free, i also bought some batman snails for my 29gal they need brackish to breed so there numbers will stay low. I also got Mr.Betta some live plants too.

I bought Apple snails to put with my bettas, one in a 10g and one in a 6g. I love these guys, they cruise around the tank, with the fish following sometimes. They do a good job cleaning, and they are interesting to watch.

I also have Malaysian trumpet snails in my 55g and the 10g. They are very cool also.

HOpe you enjoy yours!!

I'd make a plan for those apple snails, they grow bigger than baseballs and will outgrow those 2 smaller tanks quickly.

I have two apple snails who I adore. They are so much fun to watch. I know they will out grow my betta tank, so I will probably put them in my 80 gallon at some point. They are pretty cool little guys though.

it takes only 2 apple snails to breed right? 2 softballs could make many more.... They look cool though

Ya, I know they will, I have a friend who will take them, and there is always the 55...but they are small right now, so I am just going to enjoy them.
