Hers is my two cents

http://www.fishlore.com/fishpicture/...php/photo/3270

This was my two gallon asian theme tank..I now have a 6.6 for my lovely othello which is still asian theme and I should really take pics of it....
I have said it before andf I will say it again...I love white cloud minnows..They are asian and the long fin ones are really pretty..the are skoaling fish and great to watch
But if you should choose to go with a betta..my is very happy in his 5.5 with 5 cory's who are so active and funny to watch..I don't think Cory's are given enough credit for their individuality..they truely are great lil fish...wait all fish are great

What about maybe one Dwarf Gourami and four Harlequins? That way you'd have "a small shoal (maybe like 4) and one flashy fish" like you said. That would end up with an all asian, peaceful tank that would be pretty compatible... And it would only be 11" of fish!
I think everyone was too focused on the betta to realize how many types of fish there are from Asia!
The reason that most were focused on bettas is that there are very few fish that will do well in a 10g. Harlequins, for example, need a 20g tank (and at least six of them, as they are a schooling fish).

The dwarf guorami, however, is a decent idea.
A couple of white cloud mountain minnows might be a good addition for the guorami. They prefer being in groups, but aren't proper schooling fish like harlequins, so they aren't as likely to be stressed.

This is the problem that we have pretty much every time one of us tries to think of a stocking plan for a 10g tank. So many fish need a lot of friends.

you have a betta and 5 cories? all in a 5.5 gal? Isn't that like 15 inches of fish?

Your 2 gallon was pretty!

A betta and 3 cories really need a 10 to 15 gallon tank alone. That tank is really overstocked, I am sorry to say. Even Pygmy cories get too big for a 5 gallon tank so we never recommend them for any less than 10 and that is really stretching it as they need to be kept in groups of 6 or more. I am afraid that the health of her fish is jeopardized and she needs to consider enlarging her tank or moving some to another tank.

In a 5 gallon tank all you really have room for is about 1 betta and possibly a couple of Otos.

And the otos won't do well unless you can keep the nitrates really low and the water quality stable, which is difficult in that small of a tank.

yeah but I do a lot of water changes there was three in there but I had to move the other two cory's in an emergency move because they got attacked that is the only reason why they are in there..and its a 6.6 not 5.5 I got the numbers wrong

That's a little better but you're still overstocked...

Are you planning keeping the two attacked cories in there?
