I'm going out of town for 2 weeks during the summer and i was wondering what to do about aquarium maintnance? i usually do a 25% water change every week and feed my fish every other day. i cant trust the sitter to feed the right amount of food nor to do a water change. any ideas on what i should do please share them. thanks for any help.

When I have to go out of town I have a petsitter come stay with the Dogs/Cat/Fish...She sleeps in my bed with the boys (my dogs) and knows how to care for all of the fish...I pay her good but it is worth every penny knowing my babies are being cared for...

Call the local Vet's office..They usually have a list of Pet sitters...

you can buy an automatic timer, that you pre-fill with how much food you want it to dispense each day. as far as water changes, if you do a decent change before you go, it would probably be okay for 2 wks... just change it again as soon as you get back. and underfeed, during the vacation, fish can fast a little bit, and they'll be fine.

not for 2 weeks, just go to the dollar store and get those weekly plastic pill dispensers and in each little compartment put how much food you want the sitter to feed your fish. this way the pet sitter can't mess it up.

Last year, we went on a 2-week trip and our fish did alright as far as water changes went by getting water changes & cleaning the day before we left and the day after we got back. Fill the tanks as full as possible after the water changes and cleaning to allow for the 2 weeks of evaporation.

I like haddaj04's idea for feeding them. If, for some reason, that wasn't possible, Tetra makes these gel feeders that are like little shallow dishes. I'm not a fan of these things, but those are the best vacation feeder block around. I'm even less of a fan of automatic feeders, since they have such a reputation for dumping all the food at once, clogging or just not working. To get a dependable one is expensive.

Another option would be setting them up at a friend's that you could trust.. more work, but you'd have them getting daily care from a trusted friend then.
