Haveing two filters

I have a forty six gallon bowfront. I'm really not wanting to spend the money to get a heater for it. I would like to get some goldfish and raise them up big, but goldfish are sooooo dirty. The filter i have(a 50 gallon filter) just don't seem to do the job last time i had goldfish. My friend who has less dirty fish(tropical) gravel vacs the tank once a month, but with my gold fish(when i use to have some) the tank would get gross in a week or two. So I was thinking maybe I could put in this other filter I have too(I think its for a 30-40 gallon tank) Would there be anything wrong with this set up?

More than 1 filter is fine as long as the fish are able to handle it. Goldies do need lots of filtration for sure.

All of our larger tanks have 2 filters on them.

I just bought a second filter for my 30 gallon tank. Now I have a backup in case one dies, changing filter media won't remove lots of nitrifying critters, and the water will stay really clean.

Nothing wrong with two filters, but realize that extra filtration doesn't replace water changes. The extra filter will help keep the water clear and make sure that the tank can keep up with the biological filtration, but nothing will stop the buildup of nitrates, which have to be removed by water change.
That being said, your goldfish will probably enjoy it, as having an extra filter will allow you to provide some current on either end of the tank, providing extra areas of water movement and extra aeration.
