New tank new fish -- what to add?

My parents used to have a 25 gallon freshwater tank, but havn't had one in 7 years, so i wanted to have my own smaller tank.

I have a ten gallon freshwater tank and currently only have two black mollys in there. I wanted to know what fish would be best to put in there with them..?

Thanks.

Hi Tara, Welcome to Fish Lore

I'm a little confused, your heading says new tank, new fish, but your aquarium info says 5 yrs.

Is your tank cycled? If not, I wouldn't add anything else to it until it is cycled.

Good luck.

haha, yeah that is a little confusing, sorry. =P
The tahk is older, but there havn't been fish in there for a couple of months.

Yes, the tank is well cycled, and i recently added two black mollys, which are doing great.

lol, thanks, on my aquarium info, I added that my betta tank was cycled because I recently moved him and all his equipment from a 5 to a 10, so yeah, anyone seeing my week old tank would bring up questions about cycling.

Did you feed the tank for the couple of months that it was empty?

Anyway, I don't have experience with mollies, so maybe these links will help you.

Mollies grow pretty big and put out a great deal of waste, so there's not much else you can put in a 10 gal. with them.

If yours are both the same sex, you could maybe add 4 - 5 neon tetras but you must be very diligent about water changes and gravel vacuuming.

Try a ghost shrimp they are cool little ceatures. They will also make sure your fish tank is clean. They also don't produce lots of waste.

I'm thinking of putting some kind of bottom feeder in the tank,
would that work out okay?

You might be able to get a trio of corys or otos in there, but with the bioload of the mollys, it would mean 2 or 3 water changes and cleanings per week to keep the water chemistry ok, especially since corys and otos tend to be touchy about water chemistry problems. Ghost or bamboo shrimp with a lot of hiding places only they can get into would be the best bet for that tank.
