My fishes baby fry.

Hey everyone! My fish is about to drop. And I know that the male and or the female will eat the babies. So your supposed to wait until there bigger to put them in the tank with the other fish. But for a black Molly, how long should I wait? Until there adult size? Or just too big to eat?

Thanks Hailey

you must wait until the fish are bigger than the biggest mouth in the tank.

Provide lots of hiding spots for them when you do put them back in with the bigger fish since they'll still get chased.

just wanted to know how big should a tank be for the new borns?

would a 5gal be enough or is it better to get a 10gal?

At least a 10g if you can, it will encourage better growth and development in the fry.

that tank size would also be good if i have any sick fish right?
i thought my fish was pregnant and went out and got a 10gal and filter and everything except for the heater but i guess i can just use it anyways either for sick/pregnant fish or for new fish!!!

Yea, if you can have a hospital tank that size, it's good. Especially since many meds base dosage on 10g.

ok. that's good to know. thanks for the info.

just one more question. how do you keep it clycled and having good water chemistry if there is no fish in there? or should i buy a couple of fish and put them there when there is no sick/preganant fish?

I recommend having the filter for the hospital tank in a running tank as well as the substrate. Then you don't have to run the hospital tank unless you need it. Just put the filter and substrate back in the hospital tank while running it. Otherwise you'd have to keep 'feeding' the tank with ammonia drops or fish food.
