HELP PLZ, - Confused...

Hey,

I had about 14 neons - over the past couple of months I've been reduced to just 6!

I have found 2 dead - and euthed 1.

This leaves 5 un accounted for!
I have no idea what's happening to them - I have nothing really big enough that would - or could eat them and they are nowhere to be seen in my tank!

This is really confusing, They've simply vanished.

Any thought cos this is driving me daft! :P

Ta,

Are you sure they didnt get picked on to death? if they get picked on by the betta and shark die, the betta would eat him in a snap and so would snails.

Are they in the tank you were having problems with? Neons are really sensitive to water conditions and most fish will eat a dead one. Sorry they are dieing

Yeah - they are in the main tank.

Just wondered why I couldn't see any carcass?

- no snails in the tank so that's not applicable - and I doubt that they could eat em so quick before I'd notice...

Or could they? and would'nt there be something left?

I found that the couple I did find dead had been eaten a little bit - so I'd expect the others to be like that too...?

In any case - they started to vanish before I had any water issues. and only 1 by 1...

We've noticed, once in a while, our fish try to hide when they are dieing. So if they hide and the others are hungry, then sure, they could get them all eatten before you notice. Just remember, it is not human nature to see what one is not looking for, so you may not have been looking for carcasses and them laid out in a semi-obvious area before being eatten.

Good luck.

...hehe someone renamed my thread.

(it was intentionally written as 'Halp' - FAO whoever corrected me :P )

Maybe that's what happened - there were a couple of short spells where I was away for a few days and might not have noticed a carcass being devoured :P

Thanks.

i agree that neons are VERY sensitive to water conditions. that actually happened to me. i had 10 neons and within a couple of days i had 3. i couldn't find them and had no idea what happened to them. i even thought that they got sucked into the filter because i found 1 dead by the filter but one morning i woke up very early and turned the lights of the tank on and there as a dead fish and all the other fish were eating them so i was sure that's where they all went.
after that i bought 7 more and now i'm down to 4 and the same thing happened to the other three. one i found and the other two i never saw again.
the only thing i saw was like half a fish skeleton when i was vacuuming the gravel one day so i figured the rest of the fish got eaten.

I had a guppy just dissappear from my tank and the only explanation is that he got eaten, cause the cover i have would have made it impossible for him to jump out.
