Transporting fish to LFS

What do you all use to transport your fish? I will be trading in my now pretty aggressive cichlids. The LFS will give me store credit and they will hopefully get a bigger tank. I was planning on taking the 6 fish in a bucket. Its not a super long trip under 15 minutes. I will be putting a new breeding trio of fancy guppies in their tank.

I did not pick the african cichlids but was given them 6 months ago with the 30 gallon tank. Well they are about 3 1/2 inches and starting to fight a bit. I have been reading and realize they probally need a bit bigger territory and I dont plan to buy a bigger tank. They are very pretty and i like how they splash me when i feed them their Omega pellets but it just dont seem fair to them.

A bucket would work fine, as long as the lfs has the same parameters. I like to us bags that I buy. It just gives me peace of mind.

Why not go get some bags from the LFS and use them?

Good idea, I should see if they'll give me a couple bags.

I have one of those orange Home Depot buckets (with a lid) that I use for that purpose. It is clearly marked "fish" so that my wife does not mistakenly use it as a mop bucket.

I like to double bag the fish and transport them in a soft-sided cooler box, using towels for cushioning. A little fish protector and prime in the water helps too.

I ended up taking them in a 5 gallon bucket. I got 2 bucks a fish in store credit. Not to bad. But i think i will get bags for when i take them some guppies. I was just kinda short on time since i needed the space cleared for the fish coming in on wed.

I was planning on using the credit to buy some omega one flakes but was disappointed that they didnt carry any of those brand. As a matter of fact they didnt have any dry food that was not fish meal so i opted for frozen brine shrimp and two filter cartriges. Was looking at gettting some more prime as well but that was marked up pretty high compaired to petsmart.

You should just use a plastic bag like the ones you buy them in - a small squirt of Stress coat to keep em happy and preferrably put them in a brown paper bag too so they don't get stressed too much.

This is ideal - after all, this is how they give them to you when you buy them.

I found that my LFS was more than happy to give me some bags for free.
- It's worth asking - if you don't ask, you don't get.

a little too late but the last time i brought my CAE's to the LFS i put them in one of those very large ziplock bags with water and some stress coat and it worked just fine.
and of course you gotta make sure it doesn't open onthe way there but mine didn't.
that was very easy for me becausse i couldn't think of anything else and i didn't want to bring them in a bucket. i figured that way they would acclimate them in their new tank so that they were much happier.
