small snail or something
I have a 10 gall that had two apple snails at one point and it still has the pleco in it ! Anyway I have noticed a small snail that looks like the apple snail on the outside ! Is that what is is ! Also I totally cleaned my 75 gall tank out , and it was filled with algae at bottom, and most of fish had died . About how many bags of rocks would i need to fill it back up ?

Ah... I love MTS. So does every other Planted aquarist on the face of the earth! Why? They are good algae eaters, stir the sand by digging it in (Plant roots like that) and they are easy ot multiply. However, if you don't want them, take out every single snail, because like some snails, theyonly need one snail to make 2 snails, get it?

The only downside to wanting one is, all trumpet snails are self fertilizing females. Eggs are kept inside a pouch until they hatch which is why they are often referred to as a live bearing species. Reproduction is very efficient and the numbers of trumpet snails will steadily increase if not removed. If numbers become to high it may be a sign of overfeeding

I prefer MTS over any snail. They are a good indication of what is going on in the tank. If you have a fast overpopulation...means you are over feeding. If you see adults at the top of the waterline ...means you better check your water and be prepared for a major water change. I have planted tanks so they keep the substrate in good condition and even with sand the plants seem to thrive. True apple snails can get up to 6 inches!! You really need to make sure you know what you are getting when you get one. http://www.applesnail.net/

ahhh you are refering to the channeled apple snails, (also called canas Snails). I have been looking for those to put in my tank for a year. The chances are good that you won't get one of these, when you buy a snail. But it's allways best to check.

I have one apple snail he's just smaller than a golf ball.
He looks great, but lately, his shell is very pitted and looks quite thin - could this just be part of the growing process?

It sounds more like lack of calcium than anything, but I'm not 100% sure. Cana's are very difficult to get in the US as they are now illegal to ship to some states and I think you are not even supposed to ship over state lines. I also heard you have to have permits to sell/ship brigs and that people have had them come and inspect your snails to make sure you are not selling canas. I love canas, but too many people have let them go into the wild and they have totally destroyed the plant life. The only way to get rid of them in the wild is to drain the ponds and destroy the snails.
